  1. The combined direct and indirect contributions of the coal industry to Wisconsin's economy are more than $2 billion.
  2. Using more than 24 million tons, Wisconsin ranks 17th in coal use.
  3. About 70% of the electricity used in Wisconsin is produced by coal.
  4. Wisconsin does not produce coal.
  5. Wisconsin Energy Corp. is planning to build a coal-gasification electricity plant, which would be one of the first of its kind in the Midwest.
  6. Wisconsin has 16 coal-fired power plants.
