  1. The combined direct and indirect contributions of the coal industry to Washington's economy are more than $2 billion.
  2. Using more than 5 million tons, Washington ranks 36th in coal use.
  3. Washington has two surface mines and no underground mines.
  4. About 7% of the electricity used in Washington is produced by coal.
  5. Washington produces about 0.4% of the country's coal supply.
  6. Washington has one coal-fired power plant.
