  1. The combined direct and indirect contributions of the coal industry to South Dakota's economy are more than $200 million.
  2. Using more than 1 million tons, South Dakota ranks 41st in coal use.
  3. About 35% of the electricity used in South Dakota is produced by coal.
  4. South Dakota does not produce coal.
  5. South Dakota has two coal-fired power plants.
