  1. As plant life in the Everglades in Florida decays, new coal is being formed.
  2. The combined direct and indirect contributions of the coal industry to Florida's economy are more than $5 billion.
  3. Using more than 28 million tons, Florida ranks 13th in coal use.
  4. About 36% of the electricity used in Florida is produced by coal.
  5. Florida does not currently produce coal.
  6. Florida has 12 coal-fired power plants.
