Florida As plant life in the Everglades in Florida decays, new coal is being formed. The combined direct and indirect contributions of the coal industry to Florida's economy are more than $5 billion. Using more than 28 million tons, Florida ranks 13th in coal use. About 36% of the electricity used in Florida is produced by coal. Florida does not currently produce coal.
